Culture in Healthcare LogoHealthcare professionals are becoming increasingly aware of the indefensible gap in the access to and quality of health care received between various populations in America. As part of its efforts to understand and reduce these disparities, Delmarva Foundation has been awarded funding for its Culture in Healthcare Program. The Program is a three-year project intended to promote cultural competency education among adult primary care physicians in Maryland and the District of Columbia.

The program involves the completion of an online, web-based educational tool—the Cultural Competency Curriculum. The curriculum, entitled “A Family Physician’s Practical Guide to Culturally Competent Care,” was developed by the U.S. Office of Minority Health as one strategy to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities. Of particular interest to physicians is the opportunity to earn up to nine free CME Category I hours upon completion of the curriculum.

The Cultural Competency Curriculum is an efficient way to equip yourself with the understanding and the skills to enhance the care you deliver and your patient receives. The curriculum is built around case-based vignettes that illustrate the many facets of cultural communication, and demonstrate simple, effective methods to improve the understanding that you and your patient share about the issues and decisions surrounding their care.

Find out how to decrease the communication distances between you and your patients, and earn free CME at the same time.  If you are interested, please explore this website to learn more about Delmarva’s Culture in Healthcare Program.
